Summit Schedule 2022
All activities are at the Equine Education Center (EEC) at Spy Coast Farm, 3487 Newtown Pike, Lexington, unless otherwise indicated.
Trade Show will be open during breaks and mealtimes.
Coffee/tea service maintained Saturday and Sunday mornings. We’re going cupless! Bring your own mug or cup or purchase one at our trade show.
Friday
Half-day electives are cost- and value-added. Learn more about Saddle Fit, Women’s Leadership and Mindfulness Tools, and Stockmanship.
Spy Coast Tour – 10:00. Starting at the Spy Coast Rehabilitation and Fitness Center, 3295 Spy Coast Lane. Please contact rachel ‘at’ spycoastfarm ‘dot’ com to sign up before October 10. Your guide for the tour of Spy Coast grounds and facilities will be led by Lisa Biederman. Lisa can be reached at (859) 396-2888.
9:00 – Noon. Saddle Fit with Kristen Vliestra and Ron Ostrom.
Noon – 3:00. Stockmanship with Chris and Mike Stokely. With guest riders Patrick King and Amy Skinner
Noon – 4:00. Women’s Leadership & Mindfulness Tools with Pepper Landsdon. With additional support from Marika Saarinen, Katrin Silva and others.
4:00 – 7:00. Welcome Reception, Registration, and Swag Bag pick-up at Country Boy Brewing, 101 Innovation Way, Georgetown. (Straight down Newtown Pike from Spy Coast Farm. This friendly brewery is about 10 miles away from the EEC). Food and drink available. Meet presenters, volunteers, and fellow attendees.
Saturday
7:30 – 8:15. Registration and Swag Bag pickup.
8:30 – 8:45. Welcome and Opening Remarks by BHPS Executive Director Maddy Butcher
8:45 – 9:30. Dr. Sheryl King Keynote Address with a focus on digestion and best practices around feeding and keeping horses for optimal digestion.
Break
9:45 – 10:30. Daniel Dauphin, the Horse’s Mouth. More than a Bit of Information; learn about mouth anatomy and its intersection with bits and presssure.
Break
10:45 – 11:30. Dr. Doug Thal: Vet your vet and other considerations for the vet / horse-owner relationship.
Lunch by Panera
1:00 – 2:30. Josh Nichol presents a powerpoint followed by arena time. Perspectives around relational horsemanship. How our relationships with our horses impacts athleticism and other aspects of the horse’s well-being.

2:45 – 3:45. Nahshon Cook with Amy Skinner as demo rider. Building better connection through rider awareness.

5:00 – 6:30. Plated dinner by Red State BBQ. Cash bar.
6:30 – 8:00. Storytelling session. 4-6 short stories from the podium. Patrick King, Josh Nichol, Nahshon Cook, Amy Skinner and others will each present short stories. It’s going to be great! Here are our Summit Storytelling parameters: 10 minutes or less. Must be true. Must not be a rant of any kind. Must be told in first person.
Sunday
9:-00 – 10:00. Daniel Dauphin: Horse’s Mouth, part 2.
Break
10:15 – Noon. Jim Masterson power point presentation on body work, followed by arena demonstration.
Lunch by Panera
1:00 – 2:00. Josh Nichol – Part II of Relational Horsemanship.
Break
2:15 – 3:45 – Patrick King with Jec Ballou as demo rider– Understanding lateral work and the cues around it.
Break
4:00 – 5:00. Open Q and A session – All presenters available.
5:00 – 7:00. Farewell reception, catered by Red State BBQ. Closing remarks.

Will there be vegetarian options for meals, especially the BBQ?
